A successful FG Wilson hearing loss claim resulted in a £13,500.00 settlement for a former employee who developed noise induced hearing loss and tinnitus after more than 20 years working in a noisy manufacturing environment.
Our client worked at FG Wilson in Larne from 1999 until 2021 as an Assembly and Test Technician. During his employment, he was regularly exposed to high levels of workplace noise from air impact tools, testing equipment and other machinery operating throughout the factory.
Noise exposure formed part of his daily working environment. He regularly had to raise his voice and, at times, shout to communicate with colleagues due to the level of noise around him.
Although hearing protection became available later in his career, it was not routinely provided during much of his employment.
Over time, our client developed increasing hearing difficulties in both ears. He struggled to follow conversations, particularly in busy environments, and found himself turning up the volume on the television and radio.
He also developed significant tinnitus, describing a constant ringing noise in both ears which affected his daily life and regularly interfered with his sleep.
As his symptoms worsened, he sought medical advice and underwent specialist assessment and hearing testing.
We arranged for our client to be examined by a Consultant ENT Surgeon with expertise in occupational hearing loss.
The specialist confirmed that our client had sustained noise induced hearing loss together with tinnitus. The medical evidence concluded that his hearing difficulties were consistent with long-term occupational noise exposure during his employment at FG Wilson.
Following receipt of the medical evidence, legal proceedings were issued and the parties exchanged expert evidence regarding the cause of our client's hearing condition.
Following legal proceedings and the exchange of medical evidence, the FG Wilson hearing loss claim was successfully resolved.
The parties agreed a settlement of £13,500.00 in damages together with legal costs.
The settlement reflected the hearing loss and tinnitus symptoms experienced by our client as a result of years of workplace noise exposure.
The parties resolved the claim without the need for a contested court hearing.
